Up for Reading is a sponsored reading
fundraising activity that families will find quick and easy to complete
at home.
We would also ask all families to encourage their children's schools or
nurseries to adopt in Up for Reading as a
whole-school fundraising activity.

5 easy steps to success
with Up for Reading
To get involved in Up for Reading simply
follow our 5 easy steps to success:
- Start by ordering your
Up for
Reading fundraising
pack -

- Set a week, between now and 31st July 2009 to be your
Up for
Reading week and decide how many minutes each day you will
ask your child to read or listen to books.
- If your child is young, you can just read to him or her; if older,
he or she could read with your support. If your child is a more able reader
he or she can read on his or her own.
- Your child could spend anything from 5 minutes to 15 minutes, or more, each
day listening to or reading stories.
- Ask your friends and families to sponsor your children's
Up for Reading sponsored reading activities,
using the sponsorship form we provide.
- There are copies in the fundraising pack, or you can
download and print extra copies.
- You
may need to help your child fill in his or her name and daily time on the
sponsorship form so that it is clear.
- Please explain to your child that he or she should only approach family
and friends for sponsorship - he or she must never approach strangers for money or go
knocking from door to door to collect sponsorship.
- Encourage your child to read or listen
to books each day during Up for Reading
week.
- At the end of your Up for Reading week,
collect all sponsorship monies due.
- Count up and bank the money received.
- Please write a cheque for the amount
collected and send to us with the Up for Reading sponsorship forms
by post to Down Syndrome Education International
so we can enter your child's name into the prize draw.
After the event
When we receive the money your family has raised, we will
send you a 'thank you' letter confirming the amount you raised, along with
a special Up for Reading certificate recognising your achievements.
Anyone raising money also has a chance
to win one of the fabulous Up for Reading
prizes
